You are likely to be affected by the Hazardous Waste Regulations and will need to look at hazardous waste management.
Just about every business now produces some hazardous waste due to the Hazardous Waste (England and Wales) Regulations* introduced in July 2005, which provided businesses with new rules affecting the collection of hazardous waste.
Under the new regulations any organisations producing or disposing of hazardous waste products need to register their premises.
- If your business is run from an industrial type site such as a factory, warehouse, distribution centre and workshop, you must register if any hazardous waste is produced.
- If you are a non-industrial site such as shop or office, you must register if you produce more than 200Kg of hazardous waste in a year.
As the Environment Agency visits both registered and unregistered premises to ensure compliance with the regulations it is essential you know whether or not you are compliant. Those who fail to register premises or fail to complete or retain consignment notes are now subject to Fixed Penalty fines.
If you are not registered and are not sure whether you should be, Greenzone can help by auditing your waste streams and confirming whether or not you need to register. Where necessary, we are also able to arrange sample testing of any materials to ensure the correct designation as either hazardous or non-hazardous.
If you do need to register, Greenzone can assist in preparing paperwork as well as helping you to set up systems to ensure that the hazardous waste is separated from other waste and is stored in a safe, controlled manner. We will also ensure that hazardous wastes are disposed of in accordance with the relevant regulations.
Greenzone will help ensure your duty of care is fulfilled in any Hazardous Waste service we implement on your behalf.
